Mom

I had a dream last night,

Too real to be ignored.

It started out inside

The mind's sequestered storm.

It's chaos, black and red

Consumed my primal thoughts.

I watched her go to bed,

And heard her heart beat stop.

I jerked awake, afraid

The vision was too real.

She'd gone to work today,

I hadn't seen her here.

Shadows behind the door

Remind me of the night.

I hide from what I saw,

Escape the jarring tide.

I tell myself I don't

Deserve someone like her.

I love her. And I won't

Hear it: She's my mother.
