Mom

Wide awake yet deep asleep
Inside my mother it had waited
Inside my mother, just skin deep
Nothing it wants but just hatred

Cancer, like the devil it awakes
Hurting my mother, all at once
The simple cells now forsake
The body that took care of ones fate

My mother, on the hospital bed
I am strong, I will be alright
That is what she said
I wished it to be true

A breathing angel, her face covered with light
There she lay, surgery done
I told you, I wouldn't go down without a fight
She was strong, viking strength

Thats when I knew, my greatest mentor
The strongest person I know
Isn't just a celebrity, athlete, or some mystical centaur
It is my loving, strong, mom.
