Mirror Mask

Location

I came across a mask one day
That caught and drew my eye
It peeked and winked behind the others
And yet it did not hide

It was lit in vibrant hues of blue
And just a touch of red
As though the Sun was caught deciding
Whether to rise or set

The paint upon the edge was worn
As though it was much loved
The strap upon the back was torn
And sewed together again

The eyes were wide as in surprise
And a smile tugged on the cheeks
Laughter was a constant here
And very little sleep

Yet when I lifted up the mask
And put it into place
I looked upon the looking glass
And saw only my face
