Military Spouse

So many things that they'll never know
It's like a secret in the palm of their hand
You can't open it or really understand
Things started this way a long time ago

There are long periods when they can't write
and your mind goes to a scary place
You feel like a ridiculous basket case
You could easily get into a fight

You often question whether they are safe
You feel nothing more than lasting heartaches
When you hear their voice, your heart quickens its pace
A letter or an email is all it takes

You hope the quiet times will stay away
You always wish they were there to stay
