Midnight

It reads just after midnight
The light pools silver on the floor
Boards creak softly under feet
Sneaking over to the door

The woods are whispering with wind
Ancient trees curling around a trail
A marvelous maple leaking syrup
Sweetly dripping into a pail

Dew drops on grass race like cars
Reaching their destination with a splash
Leaves spinning in the trees
Coming together with a crash

The forest like a retreat
The calm silence of night
