Meritocracy

The time from which we attended school
As little children 5 years of age,
To the time we entered high school,
As young adults 14 to 18 years of age,
We've fought, pushed through, used our brain,
And discovered the fountain of knowledge.

Along our journey
Our teachers, parents, and friends have taught us and we learned
To not let the ships in the night keep passing us by as said by Mat Kearney.
We could not allow ourselves to back down and be scorned.
But to stand tall and fight with our might,
For what we wish to learn and gain.

There is not one person
Who dared to bestow upon us easy success.
We learned through failure but burned with passion.
Each and every failure taught us finesse,
How to navigate our way through the storm
To our destination.

Many times dead ends arose,
Many times defeat seemed inevitable.
Yet we stood with what we chose,
With our resolve so lively and impenetrable.
Many marvel at how we stand with such determination,
Not wavering from our desire, our goal, our destination.

"How?" they ask.
By only looking at the light of hope
For our strength to complete our task,
To prove we are capable of such a feat,
We will not back down despite obstacles.
We will succeed.
