In Memory of Evangeline

Location

Her name was Evangeline.

She was the most beautiful daughter

The sweetest and most generous partner

A loving, supportive sister

To a proud, but worried brother

She was a beautiful girl inside and out

But the struggle was…reaching her through her doubt.

Never skinny enough

She’d say as she hid her illness day by day.

But, it wasn’t long before we noticed.

Before we saw the difference.

But, how? Evangeline was perfect

The epitome of a flawless person

But as she grew thinner, and repeatedly avoided dinner…

I began to understand

But by then, it was too late

So now each day on December 2nd, we light candles and sing

I vow to change the world

To protect every little heart

To tell each and every person…

There is no perfection in this universe

And no one…should have to play a part

This is for Evangeline

Who helped me to believe

That there is nothing more perfect in this world

Than being the person that I want to be

Not someone that others want to see

Because I am the perfect me.
