To Matter

All you want is to be thought of

Considered

Remembered

For the life you lived

The love you felt

The happiness you spread

But instead, like a leaf floating on top of the wind

The title of the song you heard on the radio

The name of that actor in that one movie

You’re forgotten.

Your tombstone stands untouched

Collecting dust are the memories people once held of you

But they too are gone

Your face is erased from this earth

The trail you left behind slowly covered with the prints of the living

Your touch is no longer felt

Your soul no longer understood

Your voice is silent

You once had it all, people who supported, encouraged, inspired you

And you in turn held the same positive hand in their hearts

But with age, your appearance withered away

As did your spirit

You slipped from one world into the other

Undetected, invisible

In the moment, they cried

Once

But never thought of you again

Maybe every now and then

Drifting thoughts that couldn’t be caged in

But never enough to make you feel

Above all else

Mattered

There minds full of what tomorrow will bring

Neglecting and blocking all thoughts of yesterday

Focusing on number one

Self.

You and only you become what’s important

The priority is seeking happiness

Not others

This is the moment I died to you

I knew nothing mattered more than you

And we both felt the same.
