Masks

  We all wear masks

We were given them as children and have never let go

I hold mine close

Everyone tells you to accept each other

But to me, acceptance is too far to even be seen

It’s not acceptance they preach
It’s conformity

I’m not me

I’m not you

I’m everyone else

And everyone else is me

Everyone tells me to take off my mask

They say hiding is not good

But they all hide

So who are they to lecture me?

No one will like who I am

My mask is pretty and plain

I am nothing like my mask

I am me
