The Mask

The Mask

I look in the mirror each day

I ask myself

What mask I should place on my face today

No not the sad one, its too revealing. I don’t want to show the world my true feelings

For the mask that you can see camouflages the true me

Its my public face I remove each night

When I bare my soul in the light of the mirror

Its the one meant for only my eyes to see

It speaks of all my history

So I choose my mask so carefully

To cover the face that was given to me

The one that was meant for only my eyes to see

Theres a reason its the face that only my eyes can see

For if its shown to the world, they would chastise me

If an honest face is shown, people tend to look at you and glare

But if you hide your face behind a mask, they tend to not even care

Thats always been the reason, trying to avoid the glare

The true face I have is one I don’t often share

My true face is always smiling, never bored or mundane

But if I showed that to the world, they would think I was insane

My face is hidden behind my mask,  never seeing the light of day

Its the choice everyone has to make, become predator or the prey

For the world we live in is nothing but a jungle

Where everyone looks down upon those who are humble

Where you can’t ever smile, and you better not cry

Because if you show emotion, you will never become one of the cool guys
