Loved Dreams

Location

Excitement fills my heart

For my dreams tonight.

As I get into my sheets

I ponder what life I will live

During my slumber.

I lay down

And when I close my eyes

A mysterious darkness fills my mind.

The darkness transforms into shapes.

I’m in an odd jungle

Under, over

And through,

Step by step,

I explore this maze of life

Then I sense it,

A pair of eyes, staring at me

As panic

Replaces my curiosity

I run,

I trip,

And my face goes falling into

Grass

My arms

Pick me up

And dust the dirt off.

I spot the change of scenery.

Miles and miles

Hills and hills

Of prairie grass

I start walking

The long grass runs through my fingers.

Little white daisies tickle my shins.

I pick one

And in my hand

It disintegrates into

Sand

Below my very feet

The hills have turned

Into dunes.

Rays of sunlight

Burn the back of my neck

My saliva dries

And my eyes become clogged with dust.

Walking turns to trudging

During my trudge

Something cold hits my leg

I stand in a puddle of

Water

The water spreads

And soon

I’m standing

In the middle of the ocean

A salty breeze brushes my faces.

Peace sweeps over my mind

Then I feel the water

Begin to rise

As I sink.

Fear takes over,

But the more I try to swim,

The faster I sink.

Soon, the surface is far above me.

Salty water fills my lungs

I fall into the deep darkness

Of the sea.

My lungs can’t take

Anymore.

And I sit up.

Sweating,

Breathing heavily,

I sit in my

Dark room

Fearing my once

Loved dreams.
