Because I Love You

Love is but a rose constantly trying to bloom

but it will wither away if not given the proper room.

You must be delicate with such a rose

for if smothered, only fear and insecurity will expose.

Wilting leaves and discolored petals will fall

then it’s questioned if it was ever love at all?

But the rose that blooms on the top of the hill

among all of the flowers, this one gives you thrill.

If you water it daily and watch it grow

the gentle love will begin to show.

The red blush tones on every petal shine

oh, what I would have done to make you mine.

Your blushed cheeks showed every time I made you smile

you even laid in my arms once in a while.

But you realized I was a bright yellow hue

And you decided yellow doesn’t look good on you.

I let you go

because I love you, I’m going to let you grow.

The next time I saw you, you were a light pink tone

you said you didn’t like yellow, so I left you alone.

But you found the morning sun in her eyes and you mixed in your red

I guess my crumpled, crisp petals were too much for your head.

So I went to that hill for one last look in your eyes

all I could do was kiss your cheeks and whisper my goodbyes.

Our red and yellow could have made a sunset sky

but because I love you, my blushing red rose, goodbye.
