Love Affair

My heart belongs to no one and all

it never takes too long before

I fall

The girl with the septum ring

the too white teeth, her oh so sharp laugh

and a guitar with a broken string

Her lips are chapped, her eyes so bright

Her hands feel like fire, they scorch

but oh, how they also delight

The boy with the scar on his brow

he dresses in sneers, suits, and lies

But when no one was looking, I don’t know how

his smile would be tender and reach his eyes

His hands were gloved, his hair a pristine mess

the love he gave was cold, bloody, and torn

but I think that is what I love the best

The eyes of the barista at the hole in the wall

has a laugh that shakes my very foundation

I know I am helpless, I am caught and enthralled

Their eyes are pools of honey and tea

Oh-- what those eyes have done to me

No more than five minutes and barely a sound

I was stricken again

that laughter, it was what anchored me down

I trip, and stumble, I’ve hit the wall

that is how easy it is to fall

But no matter how simple it is to see

I fell no one ever falls for me.
