I've lost the battle, lost the war.
I lost the things worth living for.
I lost the will to win the fight,
we fought hard though we weren't right.
Only the love for our country kept us going.
We were wrong and it was showing.

So many gone, though they did nothing.
"Hell, why should we care? They had it coming!"
said the sargent, "They won't be missed!"
but we all knew they didnt deserve this.
Why did we fight this god awful war?
All of those people had so much to live for.

So he said to us all, "We attack at dawn!
by nightfall they'll all be dead and gone."
A wife of the lost approached me,
"How could this be,
you killed the man that loved me."
the regret simmered until it boiled to nothing.
I knew the end would soon be coming.

I'm sure the man I killed,
would be thrilled.
That is, if he knew
that i was going to
take my life,
in honor of his widowed wife.
Don't be sad,
just know at dawn,
I'll be nothing more then good and gone.
