Lost and looking

Mon, 06/24/2019 - 03:02 -- Begayk

I’m your identity

You never really noticed me

You played and laughed like the other kids

But what set you apart was the pigment you couldn’t see

You grew up learning what they wanted you to

Making sure you were like the rest of them

And you did just as they predicted

They tore you from your roots and stem

You struggle to find who you truly are

Because now you know you lost your tongue

You aren’t like the rest of them

And want to know what songs were sung

You’ll find me

You just have to learn the ways

Of your ancestors before you

And find out how you should’ve been raised

They’ve stolen your land and traditions

And hidden who you were meant to be

They’ve caged you and your people

And now, you have to set us free
