looking through his lenses
i walked in the class
and was second to last.
it was the blue hue
that drew me to you
hair so vibrant
i didn’t even notice
the grey haired giant
trying to teach the class
i had a new lesson to learn
and it wasn’t about history.
it was the blue haired girl
that was a growing mystery
the longer i stare
the more i am smitten
you make me purr
like an adoring kitten.
i watch her gaze
and try to win her praise
but her attention is stuck
on the boy in luck
sitting right beside her.
she stops and she stares
evoking a glare
from my eyes
to the pretty boy that lies
in the seat
across from me
some weeks go by
and i never catch her eye
instead she stares ahead
to the board that said
Industrial Revolution
i realize then
our love will never grow
to fruition
for she still glances
and prays for chances
with the curly haired boy
who sees her like an old toy
it is now october
she’s rarely in class,
usually first, she now comes last
her attention always diverts
to the boy who flirts
on the other side of her
friend or lover
i can’t decipher
my friend asks
and the disgust on her face
couldn’t be brighter
we’re just friends
thank god
if she said yes
my heart might’ve
caved in my chest
she still glances
at the afro boy
better late than not
i should shoot my shot
the intercom isn’t the only thing
checking her out today
her long locs
tickle her thighs
and i let out a sigh
i grab a friend and whisper
i hate when she leave
she calls you by the color
of your weave
and you turn to look her way
the parrot repeats my words
and the next moment was a blur
we finally locked eyes
i could see the gold
swimming inside
you stared for a moment,
not too brief
the words you uttered
left me in disbelief
that’s not my problem,
you should be focused
on your work not me.
there’s not a single problem
that i see
swinging her hair out the door
i’m practically drowning
in love galore
i’m basked in her perfume
all at once,
the smell i wish to consume
my heart pummeled
to my feet
for the love i seek
is out the door
with my heart stuck to the floor
