Looking Out

Laughing, talking
Friends, exploring.
Next thing you know
You're facing a head on
Disastrous situation
That not only can you not control
But you have mere seconds to react
Some people remember
As it flashes before their eyes
Like a bad roller-coaster ride.
Others black out
Until the flash of the moment gone
And all they remember is the danger
Then there's those that don't remember
Remember the day the time
What was going on
And what's still happening.
I was fortunate enough
to black out what happened
But remember the situation.
Somehow when I open my eyes
I wasnt where I started.
I think I buckled.
But landing in the backseat.
I guess it could've been worse.
Everyone seemed okay
As we climbed out of the wreck
I heard crying
And before I knew it
I had tears too.
I grabbed my phone
Called my sister
The moment my mouth opened
I finally tasted the metallic taste
I hung up the phone
It was too much
She called again and I handed it away
To someone else who
Had their eyes open the whole time
All I heard were murmers.
I got hot chocolate from a store nearby.
I finally came back to my senses
When my sister showed up
And she gave me a hug
I could feel the tears coming
But didn't want the rest of them to see
So I held them in
Until we drove off
I had to tell many people
About what happened
All I could tell was what I was told
And the pictures I had taken
After the wreck was done.
The first time was hard
I could still feel my body shaking.
But each time it got easier.
As the bruises appeared
And slowly faded
It was just another day
And I'm glad to still be here.
