Looking Back

Looking back it’s amazing to see how far we have made it.

From fifty cent ice cups and block races.

Brought in the darkest of places.

Guided by the light of our father as it warmly embraced us.

Blessed with the mind that the almighty has graced us.

Standing tall and strong in a position that only the lord could have placed us.

Just take the time and look at all of the familiar faces.

We have all made it closer to achieving and beating the biggest of odds.

Lead strong and absolute through constant trials and tribulations by a will that can only be gods.

My brothers and sisters.

Here today we know we are strong.

We are the embodiment that our ancestors used for strength and broke out in song.

While they were tilling the fields in one hundred degree weather.

Or standing outside city hall yelling for civil rights in frigid weather.

We are what Dr. Martin Luther King saw in his dream.

We are the voice of the oppressed who long ago dared not scream.

We are the chosen and inside of us is greatness.

They took us from our mother land and misplaced us.

And pushed with all there might in an attempt to shake us.

Pounding with an unbearable weight in an attempt to break us.

The taught us to dislike ourselves and made the media hate us.

But it was all an attempt to hide our greatness.

So stand tall and show your faces.

Embrace your skin tone with the shade of the purest dirt.

Because everything that is life sprung from the earth.

Remember as we move forward and face the opposition.

We have made it this far by the divines intervention.
