Listen

Listen
And you will hear.
You will hear the cold piece of metal tapping the flag pole on a windy day.
You will hear the hummingbirds outside of your window.
You will hear the silent breaths of everyone around you.
With your ears,
You can not always hear.
You cannot hear the twisting inside someone's stomach at the sight of someone they adore.
You cannot hear the grief inside ones' heart
Because they lost someone they love,
Whether it was 10 days ago,
Or 10 years ago.
You cannot hear the heartbeats that are fighting to keep someone alive.
You cannot hear
The hopelessness,
Or the sorrow,
Until you listen.
In the silence,
You will hear.
You will distinguish
Pain
From
Happiness
And once you listen,
With your mind
And your heart
Rather than just your ears alone,
You
Will
Hear.
And you will understand.

All it takes is a gentle ear and and a gentle heart
