From my own little corner
in my own little room
I could hear the despair,
the yelling, the feud.

My brother's life path
was frightening and long,
a road of drugs and lies,
dark deeds, so wrong.

Do we love? Do we fight?
Are we wrong? Are we right?
These questions haunted
my parents each night.

So upward I rose,
determined each way
to be the best child
in the hopes that some day

my light would shine bright
on my family's plight.
And our conflicts and pain
would not be in vain.

For them and myself
I grew to admire
the pride and success
I dared to desire.

And now as I leave
to live my own life,
I look back to my brother
with one wish in sight..

that he might look
on the choices I've made
and his demons and errors
will all start to fade.

With love for each other,
as our futures come to land,
it's a sibling's bond,
hand in hand.
