A Letter to the Passing of Time

Dear Time,

You never stop moving, just quietly go on passing

Day by day, week by week, year by year

Until one looks up to see that everything has changed.

Why are you so unrelenting? Taking away

Cherished memories, golden childhoods only to be

Replaced with creaking bones and an aching heart.

--it all happened in a daze.

Along the way, we lose pieces of ourselves and try to

Fill the holes with new people, places, ideas.

Things change, beauty fades, the world keeps turning

Just as we’ve begun, we’ve arrived at the ending

-- it all happened in a day.

Time, you never give people the chance to catch up.

You creep by slowly so we won’t notice until

All at once,

Everything is different in such a way

-- we know it will never be the same.

Sincerely,

Kerrigan Miller
