A Letter to America

A letter to AmericaThe land of the freeThe hopeful homeOf freedom and liberty.  But are the red and white stripes,The pearl-white stars so brightThemselves Contrite?  We say our country is free for allBut are we causing different groups to fall,From our unaccepting, bitter words choking them until for life they crawl?  We are said to create acceptanceBut have we created exceptions? The pointed blades of racism, of bigotryHave induced many to be deprived of their dignity. Hands are always strewed across the faceTo protect one's self from the resentment caused by race.If colors were blurredAnd neutrality was conferred,Would us Americans finally be worthy of symbolizing our eagle bird.
