The Legend of Heejung

‘Tis ancient, the land of the morning calm

With peaceful villages and green rice farms

Where mungungwha bloom as from heaven

And sacred bamboo groves of sages of seven

Where fables are told of a young girl named Heejung

Of her famed beauty many sweet songs were sung

Once known as Lucia, with a lovely smile so faint

She was but mild mannered, as pure as a Saint

She would marry one day when she found the one

But then she spied a bold man, his name Tae Young

To Tae Young Heejung, was as Spring fragrance

But to win her love, needed grace and patience

Both valuing integrity and conservative morals

More than just amour, ‘twas love of immortals

For Heejung, a beauty enshrined as reverend

Together forever, a love of Pansori legend
