Latex Lament

I would have happily stayed there
sleeping in my airless can
dreaming in the silent darkness
with not a concern in the world

but then you forced
some kind of steel bar
into my roof
tore it off like a scab
blinded me with sunshine

assaulted me with brushes
dumped me into a tray
smothered me with rollers
jammed me into pointless corners
spread me across cold, hard walls

leaving me exposed, drying out
losing my shine
doomed to fade over the years

only to return
assault me with sandpaper
tear me into dust
sweep me into the garbage

oh, how I miss happily
sleeping in my paint can
I was moist and content
why didn't you just leave me alone?
