The Last Time

They strapped on their ballistic vest

Holstered their gun

Got in their black and white car

Not knowing it would be the last time.

They arrived on scene in front of the grocery store

6:10pm the suspicious car sitting in the darkness of the parking lot

They stepped out of their car

Not knowing it would be the last time.

They asked for license and registration

Not knowing it would be the last time.

No time to react

They didn't see it coming

The bullets came to fast.

The man they swore to protect as men in blue

Left them lying on the cold hard pavement with a bullet in their head.

They left their wives, children, and department earlier that morning

Said i love you and walked out the door

Not knowing it would be the last time.

Number one priority was to capture the

disgusting man who left two heroes bleeding on the pavement.

A standoff that lasted hours ended with the death of the 22 year old killer.

Several bullets to the chest, he knew it was coming.

But the men in blue stepped out of their car

Not knowing it would be the last time.

Tears fall and heads hang

The city stands in shock

The world lost two heroes.

They hugged their family

Not knowing it would be the last time.

They protected people every day and their reward

A bullet in their head.

They left their wives, children and department earlier that morning

Not knowing it would be the last time.
