The lady in the wires
Location
Everything is moving in slow motion
Tear filled eyes gave one final notion
As I grew closer my heart stopped
So pale as if the life had already been drained
With weakness each word was stained
It felt like hours before her hand met mine
Her eyes piercing red with fear
Struggling to stay afloat like a damaged pier
Every slight motion causes a wence
I stay by her in her hour of need
I take caution after the doctors heed
Trying to give back the life she once gave me
Burdened by guilt and shame
It's hard to remember no one is to blame
They all come one after another
And just as fast we are alone again
Alone in the cold hoping time gives another spin
But we don't get second chances
So we stay strong and do our best
As she grows weary and its time to rest
One last, " I love you," as she closes her eyes
My heart begins to ache and I begin to cry
Knowing that this is a phase and not goodbye
Just seeing you with all your wires
Makes me think of how long I have with you
Before the memories are all I have to hold on to
So for now I will cherish this time
As my eyes have been open to the horrors of death
I will hold dear to my mother until her final breath
