The Lack of Effort

Although it seems trivial,

It means a lot to me.

What makes me tick

Is the lack of effort made by others.

My biggest pet peeve is

Eraser shavings

Left behind on a desk

For the next student

To wipe off Before class.

Why aren’t people proactive?

Why do they leave work for others?

Don’t they know that life is short

And everyone needs to do their part?

“Please” and “Thank you” are

Simple words, requiring

Next to no effort.

But their effect is Tangible.

Politeness aces job interviews.

It waves in the face of oblivion and

Isolation due to obscurity.

A little goes a long way.

Not saying hi to

Someone in the hall

Because it requires putting yourself

Out there

Demonstrates a lack of effort,

Which leads to lost opportunities,

And redirects the course of your

Life.

Don’t you want the best life for yourself?

Replete with open doors and

Blooming opportunities?

Put in the effort.

Wipe the eraser shavings away.

Be good to others

And of course

Be good to yourself.
