Knowing
I watch her and notice
her frail fingers and faded smile.
I yearn for her stay, but she must go.
She lies in the bed and that's when she says-
"I know it's my time, my time to go
and nothing will stop you from having to know,
that I love you so much and wanted to say
I hope that you love me just the same way"
her eyelids are limp
her hand letting loose
I fall to my knees
knowing...
she was so young
so smart
so true.
I walk out the door and don't turn back
because the image of her is all I have left.
