Know your place

"Silence girl"

"Hold your tongue"

"I think you're too opinionated"

"You better watch your mouth"

The girl holds back her comment

She knows she shouldn't speak

especially not now

Her teeth bite down ficiously on her tongue,

which wriggles in protest

She knows her voice can harness the wind

control the tides

lead armies to battle

Yet she sits

silent

Obeying

Like a good girl

She doesn't want to intrude

constantly taking back her statements

contradicting herself

so not to seem too "bossy"

or cocky

She lets them tell her what to do

Like a good girl

She hates how

she must fight to be heard

struggling against a  berating current

of voices

Her opinion isn't wanted
