Just Exaggerating

“She’s just exaggerating”

Giving birth was hard for you,

Growing up was hard for her.

The blame placed upon her head

For being born unexpectedly.

She remembers the acid that poured from your lips,

The hateful words,

The cold looks.

She tried to tell you how it felt.

How it felt to feel unwelcomed,

Unloved.

“You’re just exaggerating” is all you ever said.

She changed herself through and through,

Just to try to impress you.

She walked around in despair.

But you never seemed to care.

“She’s just exaggerating.”

Maybe you’re right.

She exaggerated  the memories.

She exaggerated  the scars on her wrist.

She exaggerated  the anger,

The self- loathing,

The desperation.

No.

She felt it all.

Every stab to her heart with your deceitful slurs.

She took so much and couldn’t take anymore.

Now as you stand over her grave in confused tears,

You will have to own up to your mistakes.

As everyone asks you what happened,

What will you say?

“She just exaggerated…

The pain.”
