Joyriding Birds

Three small figures

off in the distance

thrilling to their wings,

their joy never lessening.

They dip,

they soar,

then they climb back up

to get some more.

Thrilling to life

joyfully exuberant

have as fun a time

as most humans only dream of.

God, make me like those birds who thrill to life

like an author thrills to words.

Dipping, floating, climbing, soaring.

Help me trust you

like wings are trusted by birds.

Lord God, what I write now is just words!

I want to live like those birds,

Soaring on your Word.
