i've been playing with repetition

I’ve been playing with repetition

The kind that doesn’t let me fix my mistakes

Just forces me to repeat them

And repeat them

And repeat them

So I’ve been wondering if we have a choice

Or if we’re programmed this way

If our soul is not a spirit but a hard drive

And we have slip ups

The kind that burn our power board

And force us to repeat

And repeat

And repeat

The same kind of love that melted our circuits the first time

I’ve been playing with repetition

The inevitable kind

The kind that always leads the broken girl

Back to a boy

Just like the man who broke her

In the first place

Not for happiness but for comfort

So she’ll fall in love

Break

Repeat

Repeat

Repeat

I’ve been wondering how long it will take us

To program ourselves

To avoid the same mistakes

But I am starting to think

That once electricity

Hits a wire

Strikes a nerve

They will do anything to bond again

Even if it was a mistake

Because new mistakes

Are scarier than old ones

I’ve been playing with repetition

Repetition
