It Took One Year

Thu, 06/23/2016 - 23:14 -- Laura1

They said this year would be hard

I never realized how hard.

It took one year.

One year and my math grade dropped,

One year and my chemistry grade suffered,

One year and I went from excellent to mediocre.

One year of curling up and seeing, outside my window, two roads diverged in a yellow wood.

It took one month.

One month for my friends to leave.

One month for my brother to move away.

One month to go from content to isolated.

One month to find my soul a home

It took one day.

One day to lose a dear friend,

One day more to lose my grandmother.

One day to be left alone in a cold, unfeeling world.

One day to learn that the art of losing isn't hard to master.

They said this year would be hard;

Oh! how right they were.

It was one year,

One year of rainbows, and moons, and ravens, and sunflowers, and winds, and rivers.

It was one year of torment and tears;

And I know now

That I wouldn't trade it for anything.
