IT IS NOT HER FAULT

She didn’t ask for it

She didn’t want it

She went to the police for help

But instead of going after her rapist, they asked:

What were you wearing? And were you drinking?

She said she wore a skirt and had a few drinks,

And they said that she was asking for it because she was drunk and dressed provocatively.

Because she was wearing a skirt that may have been a little short,

And had a couple of drinks

It was all her fault.

That’s bullshit. It is NOT her fault.

If there is one thing I could change about the world,

It would be rape culture.

Instead of teaching boys that it is not okay to have sex without permission,

We teach our girls to not dress or act in a way that might provoke men.

Isn’t there something wrong with that?

A rape victim should never feel like they are at fault.

I hope that one day, a skirt and a few beers isn’t “asking for it.”

I hope that one day, girls won’t feel guilty after being raped.

I hope that one day, the world will realize that rape is not the victim’s fault.
