It’s easy to satisfy others but never yourself

I once knew a girl

This girl who tried to satisfy anyone and everyone

She worked so hard to satisfy them too

But her best never seemed to be enough

People still came and went

They never said why

And never said goodbye

She sat alone at night

Wondering where she went wrong

Wondering what she could’ve done

And wondering if things would’ve turned out differently

But wonders were wonders

And sorrow could only last so long

The next day she’ll try again

But each day was never like the last

For each day she tried harder and harder

Making sure everyone laughed at her jokes

And smiled at her mask

In the night she’ll cry and in the mornings she’ll shine

That was her life

The life of satisfying others and others alone

But she never thought it was enough

Even when others told her she was amazing, funny and talented

She didn’t believe a single word

Though she was confident in her work

It was never enough

It should be better

She’ll think

It COULD be better

She’ll say

And as she falls to the ground once again

Questioning what she was doing wrong

A hand reaches out and pulls her up

Eyes are met

As one says

“you’re working too hard! It’s more than enough”

“It’s more than enough”

She repeats in her head

“It’s more than enough”

She repeats once again

She stares down

Eyes wide

And it’s then and only then that she realizes the pain she’s held inside

She watched as her friend sees the fear flash in her eyes

The fear soon becomes built up anger

The anger that has been buried so deep within

tears start to well up in her eyes

Not from the sorrow but from an uncontrollable rage

She tried to satisfy everyone

She worked so hard to satisfy them too

But the one She should’ve been trying to satisfy was herself all along

The one and hardest to satisfy

But in the end there’s nothing she could do

The wound has been inflicted

And the scars had began to heal

Heal?

A hand touches her shoulders

And she looks up to see a pair of eyes looking at her

Not the mask she hides behind

But her

The true her that’s broken in despair

Maybe it was the gentleness of the eyes

Or maybe it was the realization that everything would be just fine

Maybe it was both

But As she was pulled towards a light

And through the dark tunnel she didn’t realize she was in

She sees something new

It was like a new world

Though she was still on the same earth and place

Somethings changed

Something has been colored in and filled

Though it was a small change it was still a change

And it was right then and there that she realized

The first step to healing was realizing

She looks to her side

and sees golden pairs of eyes smiling at her

Something cracks

Then shatters

She smiles back

With the brightest

And happiest smile

And runs out the dark lonely tunnel

Leaving her broken mask behind

She once worked so hard to satisfy others

Always thinking it wasn’t enough

But Never noticing that she was the only one unsatisfied
