this isn't really a poem but that's ok

When I was younger, I took a science class

I learned about the human body and how we bruise

And that subungual hematomas are really just bruises under your nails

At the end of the session, we were taught how to create bruises and scars.

We used lipstick, nailpolish, and bronzer. We brushed, layered, and dabbed away.

Now I am taking a different science class.

I am also learning about the human body, and also at school, but it is not in a lesson.

I usually learn how far I can last without sleep, or how unhappy I can get before it shows.

I've also learned how to do the exact opposite of what I learned many years ago.

Now I can highlight and tone and make my cuts disappear.
