Inspired by the violence around me,
Intrigued by the fatigue that is suffocating every breath,
To speak out for the silence, loudly,
To try harder and work more for my community until my very death,
Plagued by the lack of motivation in my neighbors,
Alcohol and drugs seem to be the answer for love,
Perfecting the desire to want to rise above the circumstances,
Praying to the GOD above to just give them what they want,
Make them happy, make them smile again, before everyone’s lost in a trance and,
The hope for tomorrow is gone and turned into the very sorrow that we wished we wouldn’t see,
To see we’re less fortunate than a runner with a broken leg, we broke down and begged,
We knew it was coming if we didn’t get it together, but still deny it and say it couldn’t be,
Trouble came, we didn’t confront it face to face, but we fled,
Living in Annapolis, near the mall,
Gives me hope to do better, divided we stand, together we fall,
Studying the things they say you know,
But half of that material, in the wind will it blow,
They won’t teach you how to be a man, standing up for what you really believe,
Taking one for the team, is the expression used when everything leaves,
You have nothing left, high school wasn’t your strongest, is a waste of time,
They say following your dreams if it’s not academic, is a waste of mind,
Amounting to nothing, chasing something that seems stupid to society,
Counting the blessings, making truth, knowing they’re lying to me,
Success isn’t success unless you like what you’re succeeding in,
Taking over the hood, to make it better, just to see the win,
We will sit back and laugh years from now, knowing that we made it,
Never thought we could come this far, being so degraded,
Go to school and get your get your education first,
That’s what they say, before your life flashes, when you’re laying in the hurse,
Preparing for the worse, something’s got to give,
Everybody dies, but not everybody lives,
Living in Annapolis, near the mall,
Gives me hope to do better, divided we stand, together we fall.
