Innocence
Location
The gentle breeze blowing by,
The musky air in the sky,
The laughing of children ringing in my ears,
Boys running around with their peers,
The sun watches the skyscrapers like a child,
The blooming flowers are all going wild,
As I lament on the past that I see,
Freedom and joy was what was key.
I regret not cherishing those moments,
I have realized that they were great components,
Looking back brought a great and lovely feeling,
Thinking how my smile was always gleaming,
Laughing and dreaming is what I miss,
My friends and family what a bliss,
Remembering the true happiness in my life,
Now I’m dealing with struggle and strife.
I remember those days very clearly,
Now I look at life very wearily,
Hearing the ice cream truck playing in my ears,
I look back and laugh at my previous years,
The childhood years I wish would stay,
The joy I remember as if it were yesterday.
Riding my bike down the narrow block,
Seeing children by the lake skipping rocks,
The ice cream truck passes by,
My friends give a big loud cry,
Grabbing our bikes and racing down the street,
Hoping to gain some sweet, succulent treats,
The truck comes to a sudden halt,
We hop off our bikes, running without a fault,
Hoping for a Popsicle as I run to the line,
I feel a happy shock going down my spine,
Joy and happiness is what I love,
I was innocent just like a dove.
Listen to my pleas you pure, untainted child,
Live these young years, go and run wild,
Cherish every moment when you are young,
So these years will flow by unsprung,
Laugh and love as much as you can,
Because life has an unpredictable span,
Wake up every day and be happy to be a youth,
One day you will find that moment of truth,
Remember these words my lovely sweetheart,
Being a child should always be your favorite part.
