My True Self

They talk, they laugh all around me.

Standing here alone, I want to join.

They see me and I see them.

To them I am shy

But, that’s just the face I put on.

On the inside, I am a girl.

Smart, Talkative, Fun.

But they don’t know me.

I hide who I am.

All people hide their true selves.

I do, because I’m scared.

Scared of judgment.

Scared of pain.

Letting people in

Just so they can walk away.

I want to be myself.

I want people to see me for me

And not this shy girl that they see.

I can do it.

One at a time.

A person here

A person there

Slowly people start to see me

For me.
