Inhumane Education

Modern education has become so cold,

Once exciting instruction has become stagnant and bland,

I call upon a reform to times of old!

When pupils weren’t molded by exams but by hand.

Back when a teacher’s job didn’t depend upon the scores of a test,

and students were liable for earning a bad grade.

Wake up America! Our education system isn’t the best!

Sorry to rain on your mediocre parade.

Yet, maybe that’s why we try so hard,

to make other countries quiver at the sight of our multiple choice.

National standards force students to go that extra yard,

and by filling in bubbles we become obedient and lose our voice.

Employers complain that graduates can’t write,

but by circling answers our literacy is neglected.

It’s not our fault. This system is impossible to fight,

We’re trained to be one trick ponies, is this not what you expected?

The rapid decline of literacy doesn’t affect economic progress alone.

It undermines the average American’s ability to understand,

That without a proper education we can’t hold our own,

Against those who could breed chaos in this land.

If the average citizen doesn’t give legislature some thought,

Authority will succeed in perverting this government’s administration.

Any chances of preserving freedom will be shot,

And Americans will witness the fall of a once great nation.

How do we avoid such an ominous catastrophe?

The answer to this question is actually quite plain,

But it requires the devotion of an entire society;

Let’s make teaching human once again.
