I'm Frightened

Death creeps stealthily into my thoughts

On tiptoe. Almost silent.

It's a thief-

Trying to take my limbs.

My heart.

My breath.

It's an old friend to me now.

The ache it once left- a laughable pin prick.

I embrace pain.

Suffering is the only escape.

Death is the only option.

Yet I, selfishly, live on.
