I'm A Fighter
The call came,
This is what we had been waiting for.
Mom answered,
“Hello?” she said into the phone.
I could not hear the other side,
All I heard was Mom say “Mhm” a few times.
At the end of the call Mom said “Thank you” and hung up.
Mom looked at me,
“Mom, are you okay?”
I asked my Mom who was in tears.
“Honey, none of those things that you were tested for came back positive”.
“Shouldn’t we be happy?”,
I asked my Mom.
“It’s not that simple.”
I remember these words clearly.
“What do you mean?”
I questioned.
“You have to go in for surgery.”
All I heard for the next six months was “It’s not that simple”
After those six months hell broke loose.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease.
It has impacted my life so much.
I am now on a strict diet,
And I have to see my doctor a lot.
I get sicker than anyone else,
My immune system is so weak.
I was in and out of the hospital,
December to the end of March.
I was tested for cancer,
I was scared.
I have a purpose,
I’m a fighter of Crohn’s Disease.
Let me tell you,
It’s not that simple.
