If We Knew Better

If you knew better,
you’d have done better.
But the words you spoke—
soft as butter,
cut like a knife—
more profound than anything ever could.

Straight through the heart
where I held
so much love
just for you.

If you knew better,
you'd have seen my truth—
my feelings, pure.
My intentions, too.

Oh, if only you knew better...
Things would be different.
You’d have let me love you.
Fully.
Freely.
Fiercely.

And if I knew better,
I would’ve held on tighter.
I would’ve fought harder
to keep you in my life.

Now here we are—
in a time,
in a place
we both know all too well.

Where the air still holds a spark,
and the fire
never truly left
our hearts.

A love, unmatched.
Untouched.
Unforgotten.

And still...
I wish I knew better
