If He Knew

(poems go here) Her eyes speak words that her mouth won't say,
fingers trembling, she touches his arm
and wonders if he would allow her
if he knew
would his lips part easily against hers
if he knew?
would he have started this whole love affair
with his sweet smiles and shy glances
if he knew?
would his hands slowly inch upward
eyes glisten with mischeif
as he pushed yet another boundary aside
if he knew?
could she
would she
be so selfish?
yes, her heart sighs
no, her mother cries
her mother didn't know
once upon a time
but she does now
she has a chance
to save a man's life
with a simple tear of foil
awkward fumbling under the cover
and a sigh so loud it reached the heavens
but she made her choice
so much like the father she resented
and pushed his questioning look aside
slid her hand down to his
and slipped the man's only chance of life
out of his hands
would he forgive her
if he knew?
