I write to keep the food down

I write to clear my tears 

I write to stay alive

Maybe it is smarter to pick up the pen

Than it is to bend over a toilet bowl

I write to be worth something

I write to become beautiful 

I write to drown out the hatred 

Maybe it is better to form stanzas 

Than it is to scream at the mirror
