I speak

I’mma a caramel covered dream, bruised from within.

An educated girl, who speaks what she thinks.

Mama calls me beautiful, but my enemies call me weak.

A brown eyed girl with a gap between her teeth.

I’m fighter for my team but they’re killing us slowly

‘cause the color of our skin is a reminder of our story.

R.I.P. to Trayvon Martin, I pay my respects to Tamir Rice.

They killing teens, they killing dreams.

I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.

Is this not enough, or do you want more?

How about Aiyana Jones who was only seven.

I hope that lovely girl rests peacefully in heaven.

I’mma resident of a nation that doesn’t even want me,

but that sure as hell ain’t gonna stop me.

Excessive force was a drug for the cops and they overdosed.

Hate can’t drive out hate only love and that’s the antidote.

We’ve seen the pictures, we’ve shared the pain.

The revolution has been televised.

Sandra Bland, Oscar Grant, Azel Ford and the list goes on.

Mothers crying, kids rioting, our people dying.

Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Alton Sterling.

Is this justice? When does it end? Where’s the love?

You can do everything right, and still some things will still go wrong.

“.....one nation under God indivisible and justice for all.”

T.H.U.G. L.I.F.E. right?
