I Sit.

At my local church, they stand up to pray.

But I am not one of them.

I am asked to sit.

At my school's basketball game, I thought I'd play.

But I am not fast enough.

I am asked to sit.

At a party, playing "Simon Says".

I never did listen well.

I am asked to sit.

At my friend's house, he has something to say.

I slowly knock on his door.

I am asked to sit.

Not only a dear friend, but the love of my life,

He tells me I'm beautiful.

But I am not for him.

He's scared to tell anyone.

His family wouldn't accept it; nor would his team mates!

For this, I will not sit.

I will fight for his equality.

I will make a club!

Sign petitions!

Be by his side- thick or thin!

I will do my best!

I will do anything for him.

But I did not do enough.

After the pastor's speech,

on a hot summer day,

looking at my best friend's casket,

I am asked to sit.
