I Remember
I remember going to the shelves of stuffed animals, large and small.
But how was a two year-old supposed to reach up the wall?
I remember blood, dripping and red,
My first scar and feeling of dread.
I remember singing the alphabet to get into school,
That five year-old thought I was cool.
I remember the feeling of helplessness with no defense,
The bullies made sure i felt dense.
I remember meeting my best friend,
She stays with me even if I offend.
I remember my grades failing, the disappointed looks,
They told me I better hit the books.
I remember when a friend attempted suicide,
The feeling left me sad and wide-eyed.
I remember the feeling of restored hope,
He was the one to help me cope.
I remember the first Heritage Days,
The bright lights and the fading sun rays.
I remember going on long drives,
Feeling safe and content, we had good lives.
