I Remember
I remember the time
When stuffed animals could entertain infants,
And we all learned cursive in elementary school,
And a new CD was the best birthday present ever.
I remember the time
When one computer was enough for a family of four,
And “reading” in crossword puzzles meant books, not nooks,
And we cut out newspaper articles for Current Event Day.
I remember the time
When there were chalkboards in the classroom,
And phones were used to call people,
And you could buy a Mapsco at the local convenience store.
I remember the time
When “friend” was just a noun,
And acronyms weren’t a foreign language,
And you actually had met all your friends.
I’d say I’m opposed to change,
But, you know,
At one point,
The pencil was new.
At one point,
The light bulb was new.
And people thought those things absurd.
I guess it’s all for the better.
But still,
It makes me wonder:
Where is the world headed?
