I Realized

He was my knight shining through the dark

No matter what others said they knew

He was always the light shining through

Even if he did always hit the mark.

Then I got a little bit older

Experiences came and went

Peering through the vent

I realized something with a little bit of wonder

He stayed out late

His words always sting

But he could joke and sing

So maybe he’s still great

Then I got a little bit older

And things got a little more violent

Bruises upon my skin in the shade of violet

I realized something with a little bit of wonder

He hid behind laughter to disguise his evil scheme

He isn’t a hero

And I deserve better than a zero

Even if I’m his namesake
